A new family home

A new family home is being enjoyed by it's new owners. They choose a subtle but bold choice of exterior colors. The shutters and front facing garage door have a soft hue of robin's egg blue. Surely not a color you see on every other home. They are enjoying their new home, yard and pool.

I was tasked with modernizing a home built in the 80's. The home owner wanted the kitchen to be more integrated with the family and living areas. Relocate and refresh the existing primary bathroom. In shifting the bathroom and new guest bedroom and bath would be created. All in all the end results speak for themselves.

Custom home 2nd row beach cottage

Custom designed second row for the beach home, in a gated plantation on Hilton Head Island. The site had its challenges, as I had to allow for an elevated pool in the rear and keep the house back from the main road, all while meeting the Architectural Review Board guidelines. We certainly pushed the site to its limits. 
The house has two master suites, one on the first floor and another on the second floor, and has a total of 6 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. There is also a central great room open to the kitchen and dining area. The clients expressed how they wished the plan to be as open as possible. We have a rear porch extending the length of the rear with a covered section. 
We chose colors and materials which compliment the surrounding area with soft tones and hues. I worked closely with the client and we went through multiple design options, each honing in closer to the end result. We achieved a home with character, detail, and one that matches their lifestyle.

These two cottages are mirrored along a central grass lounging area. There is a central fire pit with seating and raised hammock style lounging. Each home has 5 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The homes have a first floor game room. The living, dining, and kitchen areas are on the second level. 

The owner decided to go with a more minimalist feel on the interior. They also added pops of color throughout the homes.

The client asked I help with renovating their existing mansard roof home (see before image). After devising a renovation plan, which was then put out for pricing, we studied the cost and the time frame that would be needed to fully complete the renovation. The renovation would have taken over two years to complete, needing to be done in sectioned stages. Alternatively, the client decided to tear the existing home down and build anew.

Kitchen & Bath modern make over

My client had a modest-sized home of 1,100 square feet. At our initial meeting my client expressed how she wished to have a more modern and open floor plan. The existing galley kitchen was tight and had dated plywood cabinets. Within the original kitchen were the water heater, laundry, and pantry. 

With smaller homes, it is even more of a challenge to make every inch usable and practical. The home had a screen porch running three quarters the length of the house. This rear section of the screen porch also had a two-story vaulted ceiling. We decided to decrease the size of the screen porch and relocate the kitchen so it could be the focal point of the first floor. With the relocation of the kitchen we were able to achieve the open floor plan concept we were striving for. 

In decreasing the size of the existing screen porch we also converted the vaulted ceiling area of the porch into a new walk-in closet and master bathroom. Even though it is a small home, the renovation now provides en suite bathrooms for both the master and the second bedroom--no more sharing the bathroom with guests. 

All in all, the renovation creates a modern transformation to a small yet functional home. Reference the review from Ms. Blankenship regarding the project.

Beach cottage styled home

A custom designed home with an open floor plan of the living, kitchen, and eating areas.  We razed the existing home, then elevated the new cottage to meet current flood elevation guidelines, all while gaining a view of the sound.

My client had a uniquely shaped flag lot, which limited our overall footprint. Add in the town's vertical set back requirements, and we had an interesting design issue to resolve. We ended up with five bedrooms, each having its own bathroom, with the exception of one shared (Jack & Jill) bathroom between two of the bedrooms. We have a porch with views out to the ocean. We chose HardieShingle siding to minimize upkeep.
