Finally ready to make it a home and enjoy family time!

We started during the early days of covid, having been issued a building permit, the home owner and builder dealt with nuremous setbacks. Finally the house is ready to be made a home. Family memories are waiting to be made. It all will start here in the very clean and pristine kitchen. 

Only thing left is to add the family. So happy for them to get to this point!

I was tasked with modernizing a home built in the 80's. The home owner wanted the kitchen to be more integrated with the family and living areas. Relocate and refresh the existing primary bathroom. In shifting the bathroom and new guest bedroom and bath would be created. All in all the end results speak for themselves.

She shed / closet haven

My client requested a sanctuary space where she might be able to get away to possibly have a few girlfriends over to chat and play some cards. In addition, the scope included the creation of a new closet space. There was an existing attic area near by the master bedroom.

In our design we decided to incorporate elements that existed in the main great room, mainly the wooden ceiling trusses. The end result is a clean calming environment where she can read, host a small group, or do what she desires. The space is more than a she shed, but a closet haven.

There are drawers in the center cabinets along with some wall hung mirrors. Here we added a few subtle wooden elements similar to those used in the great room. The back wall of the center built-in cabinets has a mosaic tile backsplash and nickel gap siding on the walls.

In collaboration with my client we designed a family home specific to suite their families needs. The layout was designed meet the families current configurations, yet have an eye to the near future. One member is soon be off to attend higher education and grand children are on the horizon. Our plan accounts for the evolving work environment, where family member can be working remotely.
The family was still in the process of moving in when these images where taken. The chairs, cushions, pool furnishing and family keep sakes have since been added. all reports are they are settling in well and discovering new aspects to the home all the time. This is great to hear, as the project was very much a team effort between myself and the client. We all are satisfied with how things turned out.

A home designed for a family

On the fairway

Custom designed home with a rear pool, spa great room and screened porch over looking a fairway.  The home was designed to have a pair of master suites, 2 bedrooms , a bunk room, second floor lounge with a kitchenette. The main living spaces are all open to one another. The family room, breakfast area, kitchen and dining area all adjoining and open to each space.

My client had a modest-sized home of 1,100 square feet. At our initial meeting my client expressed how she wished to have a more modern and open floor plan. The existing galley kitchen was tight and had dated plywood cabinets. Within the original kitchen were the water heater, laundry, and pantry. 

With smaller homes, it is even more of a challenge to make every inch usable and practical. The home had a screen porch running three quarters the length of the house. This rear section of the screen porch also had a two-story vaulted ceiling. We decided to decrease the size of the screen porch and relocate the kitchen so it could be the focal point of the first floor. With the relocation of the kitchen we were able to achieve the open floor plan concept we were striving for. 

In decreasing the size of the existing screen porch we also converted the vaulted ceiling area of the porch into a new walk-in closet and master bathroom. Even though it is a small home, the renovation now provides en suite bathrooms for both the master and the second bedroom--no more sharing the bathroom with guests. 

All in all, the renovation creates a modern transformation to a small yet functional home. Reference the review from Ms. Blankenship regarding the project.

A new family home

A new family home is being enjoyed by it's new owners. They choose a subtle but bold choice of exterior colors. The shutters and front facing garage door have a soft hue of robin's egg blue. Surely not a color you see on every other home. They are enjoying their new home, yard and pool.

The client asked I help with renovating their existing mansard roof home (see before image). After devising a renovation plan, which was then put out for pricing, we studied the cost and the time frame that would be needed to fully complete the renovation. The renovation would have taken over two years to complete, needing to be done in sectioned stages. Alternatively, the client decided to tear the existing home down and build anew.

Mr. client entrusted me to design a four bedroom home with an office, gym, open kitchen and family room; all with a contemporary styling to the home. I relished the opportunity to show the range of architecture I can provide.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom and walk in closet. The rear opens out onto a cover porch with a fire place and wall mounted tv. The interior was crafted in collaboration with my clients to design a unique living room entertainment wall and kitchen island. The homes veneer is a tabby stucco with crushed oyster shells imbedded into the stucco. We choose the color of the stacked stone so it would be pleasing and be complimentary where to the stucco veneer.

All in all;  this was a fun project to work on. I can not thank my client enough for allowing me the freedom to craft a new home for them.

Custom designed second row for the beach home, in a gated plantation on Hilton Head Island. The site had its challenges, as I had to allow for an elevated pool in the rear and keep the house back from the main road, all while meeting the Architectural Review Board guidelines. We certainly pushed the site to its limits. 
The house has two master suites, one on the first floor and another on the second floor, and has a total of 6 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. There is also a central great room open to the kitchen and dining area. The clients expressed how they wished the plan to be as open as possible. We have a rear porch extending the length of the rear with a covered section. 
We chose colors and materials which compliment the surrounding area with soft tones and hues. I worked closely with the client and we went through multiple design options, each honing in closer to the end result. We achieved a home with character, detail, and one that matches their lifestyle.

These two cottages are mirrored along a central grass lounging area. There is a central fire pit with seating and raised hammock style lounging. Each home has 5 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The homes have a first floor game room. The living, dining, and kitchen areas are on the second level. 

The owner decided to go with a more minimalist feel on the interior. They also added pops of color throughout the homes.

A custom designed home with an open floor plan of the living, kitchen, and eating areas.  We razed the existing home, then elevated the new cottage to meet current flood elevation guidelines, all while gaining a view of the sound.

My client had a uniquely shaped flag lot, which limited our overall footprint. Add in the town's vertical set back requirements, and we had an interesting design issue to resolve. We ended up with five bedrooms, each having its own bathroom, with the exception of one shared (Jack & Jill) bathroom between two of the bedrooms. We have a porch with views out to the ocean. We chose HardieShingle siding to minimize upkeep.

Client requested we alter their existing rear deck. They were wanting a two tier deck with the upper section being enclosed creating a four season Carolina Room. The lower deck was eventually, omitted from the project. The upper deck was expanded, new railing installed, new roof framing, sliding "Eze-Breeze" windows and etc...

These are photos of two new custom homes designed specifically for these two families. The homes are well under way and should be ready to be moved into later this year. 
In working with each client, the floor plans were designed to match their lifestyles. Each round of design changes further fine tunes to overall plans. The end result might have been different than what was initially envisioned, but the end result will be that much better for the time and thought put into reviewing the plans while still on the drafting boards.

A renovation - transitioning styles

A 70's home that had exposed rafters that were not centered over the front doors.  I was tasked with refreshing the look of the home and providing the new primary bathroom, a new second floor bedroom, bunk room and new set of interior stairs. The project posed some interesting challenges, but we made it all work out.
